Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
If there is any book so deserving of a movie or TV show, it’s Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.
As a passion project, I have taken the time to visualize some sequences from the book into animatics complete with sound effects and dialgue! I’ve also done some illustrations to help figure out the character and prop designs. These designs are based on Lars Bundvad-Amodt’s amazing interpretation of their characters, so 90% of the credit goes to him for that. I, however, wrote the scripts, drew the thumbnails, and illustrated each sequence using FadeIn, Clip Studio, Paint, and Storyboard Pro.
This was a lot of fun to do, so I hope you enjoy the work!

Here’s everybody’s favorite cavalier, Gideon the Ninth! I gave her a mullet because I thought it would reflect her “I don’t give a damn” personality. Her face paint is the same as the cover of the book.

And everybody’s favorite necromancer! I love how “nun-ish” she looks. It’s a pretty epic design and reminds me of the rock band Ghost.
2D layout of Gideon’s rapier. It’s a complex design so drawing it in 2D and color coding it helped me figure out the dimensions.
